On top of the second course of blocks laid flat we have a continuous layer of bed joint reinforcement. This is a stainless steel wire grid, which helps to spread the load evenly over the blockwork and ground bearing. It will reinforce the blockwork and ensure we don't get uneven settlement where we had to dig out some areas of the excavation deeper to reach solid ground and build the level back up with a fill material.
