Day 123

A loop is tied in one end of the twine and another a hand's distance away.  The other end of the twine can then be ratcheted using the two loops to tension the new string and then knotted.

... and emerges the other side of the bale.

A length of bailing twine is threaded through each of the holes in the nailing needle (assuming you would like to re-string both halves of the bale).  The needle is inserted into the bales at the marked point...

Desired length of bale measured and marked.

The first task when re-stringing a bale is to cut bailing twine to desired lengths.  As you can see here we are running low in bailing twine and we did subsequently run out but were kindly bailed out!  Ha ha!

Bailing needles (shown here) are key for re-stringing bales.

We also took the opportunity to get ahead with re-stringing the small bales for the top course to the correct height.

Despite the weather we did manage to make a start on the next section of wall.

But the rain returned and we had to put up polytene sheets around the outside of the walls to offer them some protection against the rain.

The first section of the east elevation complete.
