From the third course of bales upwards we banged in hazel stakes (approx 1.3m) down through the bales.  This helps to lock all the bales together.  Best practice is to have 2 stakes per whole bale.  We had the added challenge of avoiding the ladder noggins.  Often there are no ladders within the wall, just at the top and bottom of the wall.
